Highlights: The Ambrosia apple is a relatively recent cultivar discovered in British Columbia by the Mennell family in their orchard in the 1990’s. It is thought to be a cross between the Jonagold and Golden Delicious varietals. The apple not only looks beautiful with a golden skin splashed with crimson, but also has an exceptional flavour, hence the name Ambrosia or ‘food of the gods’. The apple is grown strictly under licence in order to maintain the quality and reputation, but is now also grown in N & S America, Europe and New Zealand. The apples which Zenxin import from Daisy Girl Organics DO NOT have any added wax coating. They do of course have the natural epicuticular wax coating which the apple produces to protect itself.
