Highlights: Especially imported from Netherlands for their delicious sweet taste, these organic beetroot (Beta vulgaris) 甜菜根 are rich in fibre, potassium, magnesium, manganese and iron as well as the vitamins A & C and the B vitamin group. Beetroot are also rich in betaine which fights inflammation and is beneficial for emotional health.

Their characteristic red colour is from the pigment betalain, a powerful protective antioxidant with antimicrobial, antiviral, properties that replaces anthocyanin in flowering plants of the Caryophyllales order. This helps reduce inflammation, supports blood purification, reduces cancer risk and inhibits tumour growth. It is however heat sensitive and loses its protective power with heat, so eating beetroot raw in salad is very beneficial.

The betalain pigments in beetroot consist of betacyanins (red-violet pigments) and betaxanthins (yellow pigments). Betanin with antimicrobial, antiviral, properties and anti-inflammatory vulgaxanthin are betalains that have gotten special attention in beetroot research.
