Highlights: White dragon fruit (Selenicereus undatus) or pitaya blanca is a tropical fruit indigenous to Central America and Southern Mexico. It grows well in 20-30°C with alternating periods of wet and dry weather. Too much rain causes stem rot and although it belongs to the cactus family it needs shading from intense sun.

Not only a rich source of vitamin C it also contains oligosaccharides  which feed the gut microbiome encouraging smooth digestion. Packed with fibre which supports digestive health, it is thought to help reduces the risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. While dragon fruit’s total antioxidant capacity is not especially high, it was found to be best at protecting certain fatty acids from free radical damage.
