Highlights: When someone says ‘tomato’, we think of the classic red tomato which first made its way successfully from S. America to Europe, but as you can see from our Heirloom tomatoes, they can be yellow, orange, brown and even striped like Green Zebra. Each colour offers a different array of antioxidants and has its own shape and flavour balance.

The assortment consists of 10 different varieties including sweet, intense ‘Pomodorini’, light yellow ‘Snowberry’, firm red ‘Brown berry’, and ‘Green Zebra’, a brilliant salad tomato.

An heirloom variety is not a hybrid. This means you can save seeds and grow plants similar to the parent plants from which they were harvested.

Our Heirloom cherry tomatoes called ‘Wild Wonders’ are grown by Demeter accredited organic/biodynamic grower, Frank de Koning. Frank has a total of 9 hectares under glass, with greenhouses in Brielle, Tinte & Rockanje, South Holland.

Frank realised conventional farming methods did not deliver the quality of product he was looking for, so he converted 20 years ago to organic farming. He says “It’s just more fun to grow in the open ground and use compost, companion planting and beneficial insects!”

Soil biodiversity is key to healthy plants, so Frank restores soil fertility in winter months by applying compost teeming with organic life. He controls aphids and other plant predators by using ladybirds, while hard working Bumble bees which work with less light and lower temperatures than honey bees pollinate the tomatoes.

Frank’s ‘Wild Wonders’ assortment draws from a rich reservoir of wild tomato species, increasing biodiversity and thereby improving food security.
