Highlights: Honeydew melon (Cucumis melo) belongs to the Cucurbitaceae or gourd family like cucumber and pumpkin. This delicate, pale green melon’s original name was ‘White Antibes’ as it is recorded as being grown in Southern France and North Africa in the 15th century. Its actual origin is unknown, but it has been cultivated in the Middle East since ancient times and was treasured for its sweet flavour and high water content by the Egyptians.

The honeydew melon is ~90% water and an excellent source of water-soluble vitamins B and C. It is a high fibre, low-sodium fruit, rich in potassium and the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, known to support healthy eyes and vision.
