Also known as cantaloupe, rock melon is a variety of Cucumis melo with a thick netted skin and light orange flesh. Like other melons, rock melon is hydrating with a 90% water content, but is also rich in fibre, minerals, phytonutrient polyphenols and antioxidants. What sets it apart from honeydew melon is that it has nearly twice the vitamin C and as can be guessed from the orange flesh, over 60% more provitamin A. The water soluble B vitamins B1, B3, B6 and essential B9 folate are also present. Melons are a great way to increase antioxidant intake, decrease inflammation and promote overall health in the body.

Delicious to eat by itself, rock melon combines well in salads, smoothies, popsicles, tea bread and even wrapped in Parma ham.
