Highlight: Originating in Mexico/ Central America, Mexican or sweet turnip (Pachyrhizus erosus) was brought to Asia by the Spanish. It’s a member of the bean family, hence its other name, sweet yam bean. It is most  commonly eaten raw in salads of all kinds and simply sliced as a sweet snack.
